North Center was settled in the latter part of the 19th and early 20th century, mainly by Germans who worked in what is known as the industrial corridor along Ravenswood Avenue. Now it is home to neighborhood favorites such as Pete’s Pizza, Waveland Bowl, Revere Park, and Trader Joe’s.
Ravenswood, just to the north of North Center, was founded in the late 1800s originally as a suburb after a group of real estate investors purchased farmland that supported a population of ravens! Now, Ravenswood is known for its courtyard-style residential buildings and tree-lined residential streets, as well as its bustling arts community and microbreweries!
